Yoni Steaming – A Resurfacing Tradition

Yoni steaming was an ancient practice which dealt with female concerns such as infertility, postpartum recovery and vaginal care in general.  Keep in mind, there were no prepackaged products then.  In fact, many of the prepackaged products designed today create more harm than good due to artificial ingredients.  Herbs and roots are nature’s way to address all that ails us.  Yoni steaming is making its way back to the culture as we awaken, connect and return to Mother Earth for our remedies. 
 
With everything, we must be careful to pay attention to our bodies.  We should research and make sure anything we do resonates (feels right) for our circumstances.  There are some who may argue let the body do what it does naturally.  I say, don’t we help the Yoni when we take long baths?  Water through baths helps the body cleanse and clear.  The various things we add to baths affect the area as well.  The Yoni steaming, when done properly, adds another dimension as it works with the body to induce balance more rapidly.  Think of the steaming as a tincture under your tongue vs. taking a pill.  The tincture immediately goes into your system.  The pill takes to as works through digestion.  It’s time to remember from a place of love, not fear.  Reconnecting with our feminine traditions will help our healing on many levels. 
 
I choose steaming over the pearls or eggs (suppositories) when in a relationship except for use after childbirth.  I have used DIY pearls and they were very effective.  Yoni Pearls are my choice when clearing from a relationship.  Your choice should be based on what is actually going on with your body and your circumstances.

​Understanding the process is physical, mental and emotional; you have to look at your reasons for the steaming.  The body does not lie, so, any physical condition is based on what’s going on with you spiritually first.  If you are having chronic infections with a mate, are you comfortable with the relationship?  Do you trust it?  Have you decided emotionally it is over?  If so, your body may start rejecting him. Our intimacy is more than just the physical act of sex.  It is a blending of energy even if it’s a one night stand or a fling.  Now go deeper, what has happened to you physically, emotionally, or mentally (spiritually in total) that makes a fling ok?  With no judgement, I say, all of this shows up in the body.  Each person has a frequency/vibration and all connections leave deposits of that energy.

​​ All of the reasons a Yoni Detox comes to our attention is due to an underlying concern.  It is initially a prompting to clear concern in our sacred space.  This is the same sacred space where life is created.  Think about that!  The gift which gives life is suffering.  This is represented by various reproductive conditions, painful periods, dis-comfort, dis-ease and odor from infection, for example.  What is going on from a deeper perspective that the body would need assistance outside its normal process?  Even childbirth can be a trauma to the body especially if the body was not consciously prepared prior to getting pregnant.  The Yoni Steam also can be used for maintenance and preparation.  With such use, you can begin to discern negativity as it enters your body and immediately stop and discard/discharge it.   
 
This one of the major things the modern has lost from the Ancient Knowledge of the Egyptians.  We have gotten so far away from knowing and understanding our bodies.  The lost knowledge coupled with the stresses of our culture, environment, and families will show up in the body.  Again, the body does not lie even if we are in unconscious denial.
 
This commentary will focus on the benefits of steaming.  I did mention earlier, I find benefit in the pearls.  The pearls require more private time for full benefit.  The pearls are inserted for several days followed by several days of purging.  This can be difficult if in a relationship without an understanding partner (I will do another article on this point).  So, I share steaming because it is effective and can work more easily within the confines of a relationship.  Please use the concept to do your own research to determine the type of Yoni care you should pursue.

• Thank your body out loud or silently
• Find joy in being a woman.  Embrace your mind for the brilliance it holds, your heart for your compassion, your breasts as a giver of supplication and comfort, your arms for all you’re capable of carrying, your legs for supporting you while you support yourself and others, your womb for the giving and creating, embrace the womb as birthing ideas as well as children, give thanks for bringing forth all you can imagine – As such, give thanks for realization you are a Goddess and commit to using your powers for the greatest good.
• Then when you finish your purging/restoration, consciously flush all that you released. Do this with the understanding the same water is never in the bowl again.  You cannot get it back – commit - DO NOT go back and pick you what you let go.  Truly release while envisioning balance and restoration.

Directions:

1. Add about a cup of your chosen herbs to a basin/bowl/steamer of hot water.
2. Let the herbs steep for at least a minute.
3. Remove your clothes from the waist down.
4. Stand or squat directly over the basin once in position. Some people prefer to place the basin in the toilet and then sit on the toilet. If you purchase or make a stool use it accordingly.
5. Wrap a towel around your waist and legs to prevent the steam from escaping.
6. Make sure to cover your feet and your neck during the process to prevent colds.

​The average steam session lasts between 20 and 60 minutes. Depending on how hot the water is, the steam may cool sooner.  Before positioning over the water, wave your hand about the same distance away to ensure the steam is not too hot.  Use the underside of your arm between your wrist and the bend in your arm.  This area is very sensitive and will be a good gauge of the heat.

• Yoni Steam Stool.  You can use a seat for the toilet or purchase various types of stools.  It’s your ritual.  Make your choice based on how and where you will store it.
• Towel(s), robe or a combination.  There are Yoni Gowns/skirts.  You can use something you have.  Just be sure to dedicate it to your practice.
• Socks and neck scarf.  Be sure to cover your feet and your neck area especially the base of your neck during the steam and up to 10 minutes after.
• Calming music or meditation
• Uninterrupted time
• Open heart and mind
